Double-5-Star Rated Arkansas Surgical Hospital Chooses Picis for Automation

Total Perioperative Automation software eliminates paper record-keeping

Picis Clinical Solutions, Inc. (Picis) is pleased to announce the implementation of Total Perioperative Automation software at the Arkansas Surgical Hospital (ASH), located in Little Rock, Arkansas. ASH, a physician-owned facility, has 11 state-of-the-art operating rooms and prides itself on patient-focused decision-making by the practicing physicians who are on the front lines in treating their patients.

ASH sought a solution to enhance the perioperative experience for patients and clinicians. ASH will migrate from NEXTGEN CQI to Picis OR Manager and will add the following modules: Anesthesia software, Preop software ,PACU Care Software, SmarTrack patient tracker software and Envision Analytics. The Picis implementation will replace all paper record-keeping with electronic processes, while adding the benefit of intraoperative software with the benefit of real time staff interaction. These tools will allow ASH to automate their surgical processes with an electronic record, allowing for more detailed patient tracking, in-depth reporting, ability for automated communication between teams, tracking of costs and potential savings, and many other work functionalities for the staff.

“Our hospital began looking for a software solution to effectively communicate with our families and guests while managing patient flow more efficiently. We evaluated several systems and felt that Picis gave us the greatest opportunity to achieve our goals for our patients and hospital” stated Brian Fowler, Chief Operations Officer at ASH.

Recently, ASH was recognized as the only Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) double-5-star rated hospital in the state and only one of 19 highly-rated hospitals in the nation. Established by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the CMS summary star rating is based exclusively on patient survey scores and the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating, incorporating outcome measures as well as patient experience scores. The double 5-star rating takes several years to acquire due to the rigorous government standard inspections that must be met. In order to maintain their high rating, ASH must maintain a high quality of recordkeeping and care standards—now with Picis automation, ASH can replace their manual documentation processed with a continuous electronic patient record from surgery scheduling to recovery.

In addition to the new software, ASH will continue to benefit from the Picis support to improve and enhance perioperative productivity.  Mr. Fowler commented “The sales and implementation consultant teams at Picis are very knowledgeable of their products and services, and how they relate to our mission as a leader in patient care.  They have also helped us evaluate our workflows to see where we can eliminate redundancy and workarounds that will allow us to focus more on our patients and their needs.  We are extremely excited about our decision to partner with Picis, and look forward to growing with them.”

Marcus Perez, Executive Vice President of Picis, added, “The implementation of the Picis Perioperative Automation software at a double-5-star hospital shows Picis’ commitment to maintaining high standards for our systems to match the CMS government standards that ASH must meet. ASH is dedicated to providing high quality care to their patients while simultaneously adhering to policies which make them a stand out healthcare facility in the U.S. We look forward to our continued relationship with ASH as they actively seek modern technologies to enhance their processes and procedures throughout the hospital.”
