Surgical Workflow Solution for the Patient Journey

Patient Safety

As the VA strives to provide the highest quality care possible every day, Picis provides the tools to allow clinicians to focus on what matters most, their patients. Picis supports the VA’s top priority of patient safety with software that manages patient’s status at all times while providing updates to all healthcare providers throughout the patient journey.

Picis OR Manager and Anesthesia Manager help to support patient safety

The OR Manager system can make the site and side fields mandatory during the booking process and are available on SmarTrack® (any screen) and in ALL documentation screens

With conditional preference cards, the correct supplies are automatically selected on the pick list to pull. For example, if a patient has a latex allergy, the system will pull non-latex supplies; such as catheters. The latex allergy and all precautions are on every SmarTrack board for all clinicians and staff to review when caring for the patient

OR Manager documents the “Electronic Time Out” to ensure patient safety while providing notifications to ensure completion

An electronic check list in Preop Manager is available to all perioperative staff to ensure all pre-surgical tests are completed, current history and physical is available and proper consents have been signed

In Anesthesia Manager, drip dosages are calculated automatically based on the patient’s weight and pump rate – or – pump rate is calculated based on patient’s weight and dosage

Picis helps to improve the accuracy of the OR Surgical Record

Conflict checking equipment and/or instruments during the scheduling process to ensure availability on the day of surgery; as well as conflict checking to rearrange the schedule when an emergent case is added on

Scheduling cases by average case times allows the operating room the flexibility to accommodate any urgent or emergent cases appropriately

SmarTrack provides notifications of patient readiness in Preop for surgical staff to retrieve the patient (elimination of phone calls)

Implant documentation on the patient record with serial and lot number associated to the patient in case of recall – with standard reports to pull for recalled implants

Forecast supply report to ensure all supplies are available for cases in the future

Visual representation of room set up, equipment settings, back table set up available for reference at any time before and during the procedure to ensure all instruments and equipment are available and set up properly

Mandatory fields to make sure all of the clinical and statistical data is entered during the case and nothing is missed

The supplies are displayed by bin location to ensure the correct supplies are pulled for the case in an easy to pull format

SmarTrack automatically notifies the family members in the waiting room when their loved one has moved to another area in their surgical journey. Updating the family members as the surgery is progressing is a family and patient satisfier
