InSight Anesthesia™ is a decision support system that works with Picis Anesthesia Manager to enable the creation of rules based on clinician-defined criteria. A rule can be created to notify the anesthesiologist of changes in specified information in the patient record such as heart rate, blood pressure and cardiac output.

InSight Anesthesia pushes needed information to clinicians when they need it, and it is completely configurable by them. InSight Anesthesia was designed by clinicians, so creating each rule is intuitive. Hospitals create their own rules using a natural language format drawing from fields within Anesthesia Manager such as physiologic variables, fluid totals, lab results, medications and patient demographics.

With an anesthesia information management system silently working, vigilance actually may improve as a result of the automatic charting of important patient data in conjunction with a decision support system that helps the anesthesiologist respond to changes in patient information.
