Picis Releases Latest Version of CareSuite Extelligence

Enhanced surgical business intelligence solution promotes improved quality and operational efficiency

WAKEFIELD, Mass.— April 10, 2007 —  Picis, Inc., an established provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced the release of CareSuite™ Extelligence® OR version 3.0, an out-of-the-box business intelligence (BI) solution designed specifically for analyzing and managing the business performance of the surgical care environment. This software seamlessly integrates with CareSuite OR Manager, Picis' operating room management system, allowing end-users to directly access and interpret the automatically-recorded data during the surgical continuum. Extelligence OR version 3.0 allows the perioperative services team to monitor everything from physician performance to scheduling efficiency in order to help improve time and materials management across the surgical department.

Extelligence OR version 3.0 translates the voluminous data produced throughout the surgical care process into actionable business intelligence. Healthcare executives and department directors are empowered with an evidence-based profile of how the service team is performing and utilizing resources. The tool allows decision makers to leverage data from existing systems and more easily spot trends, all with minimal involvement from the hospital's information technology (IT) department.

“Hospitals can use business intelligence tools to help integrate and capitalize on data from existing systems to further improve quality and operational efficiency. A well-designed BI system helps identify best practices and areas for improvement, and is essential to building and sustaining a cohesive, clinically-led performance improvement program,” reports Vi Shaffer, Gartner Research vice president.

Extelligence OR features include:

  • Low total cost of ownership — Hospitals can acquire and leverage business intelligence at a low total cost of ownership by relying on a leading, industry-standard business intelligence tool and platform delivered through a thin browser client, packaged with operating room (OR) analysis reports.
  • Out-of-the-box integration — Facilities can get more from what they already have by leveraging out-of-the-box integration with CareSuite OR Manager, including a short implementation cycle, and user-defined fields that allow access to comprehensive OR data.
  • Enhanced best practice report library — Executives can empower end users to do reporting and analysis with an expanded best practice report library, easy-to-use analysis tools, and Microsoft ® Office integration. IT can significantly reduce the time spent creating and maintaining reports by enabling the perioperative service director and others to become self-sufficient.

Picis will conduct a 30 minute webinar to provide an overview of the power of CareSuite Extelligence OR version 3.0 for healthcare CIOs on April 24, 2007. More information is available on the Web at www.picis.com/webinar/BI.
