The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)

Picis signed an agreement with AORN, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, to incorporate their Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) into our CareSuite operating room management system. The PNDS, a standardized nursing vocabulary developed by AORN, identifies data elements and nursing language common to the perioperative nursing practice, allowing more accurate and complete data analysis. Under the terms of the agreement, Picis can embed the PNDS vocabulary within its software and distribute it as part of CareSuite, making the system an even more effective management tool. This standardization of vocabulary and data collection allows Picis to offer the most comprehensive benchmarking and reporting capabilities available.

College of Healthcare Information Management Executives Foundation

Picis is a Premier member of the CHIME Foundation. A hallmark of CHIME's success has been a close collaborative relationship with the H.I.S. vendor and consulting community. The CHIME Foundation was formed by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives Board in 1994. Incorporated as a separate non-profit organization, the Foundation was structured to support CHIME's programs and activities. In 1994, fifteen firms stepped forward to become the Foundation's first group of member firms. The Foundation Board of Directors, chaired annually by CHIME's past chair, established a set of educational activities and surveys designed to promote collaboration between the Foundation and CHIME members. These activities have proven to be entirely successful—the Foundation and CHIME members have discovered mutual benefit in such activities as focus group discussions conducted by Foundation members.

Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS)

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. Founded in 1961 with offices in Chicago, Washington D.C., Brussels, and other locations across the United States and Europe, HIMSS represents more than 20,000 individual members and over 300 corporate members that collectively represent organizations employing millions of people. HIMSS frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through its advocacy, educational and professional development initiatives designed to promote information and management systems’ contributions to ensuring quality patient care.

The Advisory Board

The Advisory Board is a membership of 2,500 of the country's largest and most progressive health systems and medical centers. The Advisory Board provides best practices research and analysis to the health care industry, focusing on business strategy, operations and general management issues. Gathering data across and beyond the membership, the Advisory Board publishes daily and weekly news services, 50 major studies and 3,000 customized research briefs each year on progressive management and clinical practices in health care. In general, the research focuses on the best (and worst) demonstrated practices, helping member institutions benefit from one another's learning curves.

SNOMED International

SNOMED® International, a division of the College of American Pathologists, is committed to the excellence of patient care through the development of a scientifically validated reference terminology - SNOMED RT - that enables clinicians, researchers and patients to share common concepts worldwide, across clinical specialties and sites of care. Picis and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) have partnered to incorporate controlled medical terminology into Picis' operating room management system. Under the terms of this agreement, Picis incorporates CAP's Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Reference Terminology (SNOMED® RT) into the Picis system to help standardize detailed clinical information, such as surgical procedures, recorded by nurses in online case documentation. This standard language will enable nurses to more accurately document patient care throughout the perioperative process and will enhance the reporting and analysis of medical treatment outcomes.
